The Rapids are off to the semi-final after a win over Pullman.
-------- Micah Rice/The Columbian
The Game got underway at 3:45pm (PST) and the Greyhounds would jump out to an early 9-4 lead. However, what would ensue within the next 6 minutes of game time would leave everyone watching speechless. Rapids Senior Captain, Alex Pont, singlehandedly went on a 13-0 run, and the rest of the team would continue that, bringing the run to 26-0. Pullman would find all of their second quarter points from inside the arc, and cut into the lead a bit, but River’s rebounding was so good that they still took a 39-21 lead into halftime. The stats of the first half showed the story of how the game had gone. The rebounds were 22-10 in favor of the Rapids, Pullman had not made a 3-pointer, while River’s Josh Paxton put up 4 of them by himself, and Rivers' much more balanced approach inside and outside the arc, showed to be the way to go. The third quarter got underway and whatever Coach Craig Brantner said the Greyhounds definitely seemed to be effective. Pullman would slowly cut into the lead throughout the quarter, and even got the lead all the way down to 11, making the score 46-35. The fourth quarter however was where Columbia River showed why they are one of the best teams in the state, as they would hold on in the fourth quarter and take the win 54-48.
The Rapids will now play the Bremerton Knights, in the Yakima Valley SunDome, on March 6th, at 7:35pm, with a trip to the Washington State 2A Championship game on the line.
