River’s Unified Soccer team takes home the 3rd place Special Olympics trophy after a great post-season run.
-------- April Berg
In the third place match, the Rapids took on a Clark County foe, the Camas Papermakers. Camas scored four goals in a great offensive showing, however, River one-upped the Mean Machine with 6 goals of their own - Fro Ochoa scoring 2 goals and assisting on one. Ashlyn Coats, and Rian Adkins also scored a goal of their own. And once again in net, Adalynn Geotze made another 4 saves.
While the Rapids didn’t make it to the finals, they still took home the 3rd place trophy. Head Coach John Armerding said how the team started rough in the regular season, but had an upswing in momentum coming into the postseason. Armerding said he’s super excited for the future of the program, and says that he is “hopeful (the Rapids’) success will encourage more students to get involved in and continue to grow Unified at River.”
River’s unified team didn’t come up winning gold, but they still had a season to remember, winning the bronze medal at state, which is better than nothing. There will be a lot of senior losses over the off-season, but the future looks brighter than ever in Hazel Dell.
