The Rapids suffered a big blow in their game hosting the R.A. Long Lumberjacks on January 5th. This game was quite possibly the game of the year, “some might say ugly shooting resulted in the low scoring affair, but I say the probable cause was the incredible defense from both teams.”
The game would go into overtime locked up at 41 a piece and would stay that way through the first overtime. Double overtime is where things got crazy. With two seconds left in double overtime, Jeff Rooklidge pulled up from behind the ark and knocked down the biggest shot of his life and secured the Lumberjacks the win. The teams will meet again for the biggest game of the year tomorrow in Longview in what should be an instant classic. After the battle against R.A. Long, the Columbia River Boys Basketball team will play their final four games.
(Jan, 27 vs Mark Morris | Jan, 29 @ Hudson’s Bay | Feb, 3 vs Hockinson | Feb 5 @ Woodland).
If the Rapids are going to make a run to Yakima, they’ll need to clean up the inconsistency. Those issues were on display in a loss to the Woodland Beavers by a score of 53 - 45 in a game that slipped away from the Rapids and left Columbia River with another tough set back.
However, now more than ever is the right time to get things figured out and it seems like things are beginning to click in the Rapids lineup with Alex Pont directing the group. River has won two games in a row. Both being over very quality opponents. The first being a dominant 64 - 45 on the road at Washougal, and the second being at home in a ten point marginal victory over the Spudders of Ridgefield. If this group of Rapids plays up to their full potential, then good things will happen. This is the Rapids final push for the playoffs and it starts right now.
