🏀 Basketball
The District 4 playoffs are set for boys and girls basketball. The Columbia River Rapids have had two very successful seasons in both, despite the slow starts to the year.

The game got underway at 7:00pm (PST) and Columbia River got out to a quick 6 - 0 lead, which surprised many, but the Rapids continued to play their best basketball of the year, as they took a 33 - 20 lead into halftime. However, the second half showed to be the game that everyone imagined, as the Beavers would cut the lead all the way down to 3 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter, though, was where the Rapids showed why they are one of the best teams in Southwest Washington. They extended the lead back to 9, and as the final buzzer sounded, CR Sports Play by Play Commentator Steven Hamann had the call, “Guthrie has it, that is ball game. FLIP THAT COIN!” He then said, “That is the best game all year at the J. Hoover. Gymnasium.” But as the celebration began, the inevitable moment of the coin flip took place, and the Beavers won the toss. After all of the work that the Rapids had just done, it ended up being erased just like that. A heartbreaking moment for Head Coach Tee Anderson and the Rapids. As a result of the lost coin flip, the Rapids will now play the Black Hills Wolves
As for the Rapids Boys’ Basketball Team, they finished in second place of the Greater Saint Helens League 2A Circuit after their win also over the Woodland Beavers. Instead of the season coming down to the flip of a coin, River held the tiebreaker over the Beavers. So after the win, the Rapids secured the three seed outright. River’s Boys’ team will now also play the Black Hills Wolves.
As of February 6, 2026, 9:00pm (PST), all of the District 4 Playoff matchups are set.

February 11th: (6) Hockinson @ (3) Tumwater | (4) Centralia (replacement for Shelton) @ (3) Washougal.

The next two rounds will be played on February 16th and 18th for Girls and February 17th and 19th for the Boys. Both teams that make it to the Championship and the winner of the losers' bracket will advance to the Washington State 2A State Tournament.
It’s time for the playoffs and the Rapids are ready.
