In some of their more recent matches, the boys have found a lot of success. On Thursday, the team defeated Hockinson, with Potter shooting a 33 and Owen Winn shooting a 34 -they scored the first and second most points for River, respectively. The boys were also victorious over R.A. Long on Monday, with a total of 148 strokes.
On Tuesday, they competed in the Titan Cup. Despite a 4-1 loss against Mountain View to start off the day, the boys took a tough-earned victory over Union, 5.5-4.5, which led them to a third place finish overall.
“We have strong [leaders] on the team who are strong athletes and are working to develop a team mindset,” head coach Aaron Blackwelder explained. “We are focusing on building camaraderie and a cohesive team unit.”
After coming off a third place finish at state last season, the boys are looking to make it back to that moment and possibly make it further. They were able to take third place at state mainly through Jack Kendrick finishing 11th and Luke Potter finishing in 7th place. If they are able to keep up their success, they have a better chance of sending even more athletes to state than last year, which would boost their score and give them the best chance to win.
