First, for volleyball, they didn’t lose a single set throughout the tournament, dominating teams such as Ridgefield, Mark Morris, and Woodland, winning 3-0 against them all. This caps off their season before the state tournament, with them finishing 18-2 and taking the league title along with the district title.
With these strong wins the girls continue their momentum heading into state where they are seeded number three, taking on Orting to start the tournament next Friday at the Yakima Valley SunDome. The team is hoping to stay strong throughout state and bring home some hardware, potentially even a fourth straight state championship.
Then, for girls soccer, they won the first round of districts over Mark Morris 3-0. They then took on W.F. West in a very tight contest. The game went into halftime tied 0-0, but the girls scored two goals within the first five minutes of the second half, which propelled them to a 2-0 victory.
Last night, the girls took on Ridgefield in the district championship game, which was highly anticipated considering the two teams split games during the regular season. However, Ridgefield scored about six minutes into the game and they rode that wave of momentum throughout the rest of the contest. River was unable to get much going offensively and after Ridgefield scored again, early in the second half, Ridgefield was able to possess the ball and bleed out the clock to win the game 2-0.
Despite this, the girls are ranked third going into the state tournament and have a history of going on deep state playoff runs without winning the district tournament. The girls play Kingston in the first round of state, and, in this postseason, are looking to win their sixth state championship in program history.
