Both the boys and the girls competed in state this past weekend; the boys placed second overall and the girls placed first.

For doubles for the girls, Sydney Dreves and Emma Lungwitz, and Riley Schoonmaker and Katie Dumas competed. Similar to Serebriakova, Dreves and Lungwitz won their first three matches, but dropped their last match, which placed them second overall in the tournament. As for Dumas and Schoonmaker, they placed fourth overall after winning out in the loser’s bracket after losing in the second round of the winner’s bracket.
Overall for the girls, their high placements in both singles and doubles was enough to win them their second straight state championship. They scored a total of 28 team points and the next closest team was Lynden with 19.
As for the boys, they sent three athletes up to state: Lucas Walburn, Noah Coakes, and Nate Little. Walburn, in the single’s bracket, was able to bring home a first place finish, not having dropped a single set throughout his four matches. In the final, he convincingly defeated Bellingham’s Jacob Kuhn (6-2), (6-2).
As for Coakes and Little, in the double’s bracket, they placed third in the state overall by defeating North Kitsap in the third-sixth place matchup. They won their first two matchups in the winner’s bracket, but lost in the semifinals against Burlington-Edison, which set them up for their eventual third place finish.
Even though the boys started their season in the fall, they were still able to finish out strong by having three podium finishers in the state. Overall, they placed second overall in the state with 20 points, and were only two points behind Sehome, the first place team.
