Recapping River football's success during Friday night's homecoming game.
-------- Julia Delgadillo / CR Sports
The game started with an onside kick by Woodland, which they recovered. However, the River defense forced a punt, but after marching into field-goal range, an attempted field goal kick was botched and scooped up and scored by the Beavers to give them an early, 6-0 lead. The first quarter ended up with River safety, Joey Pena, intercepting Woodland quarterback Brett Martynowicz, to set up River’s first touchdown, as running back, Chris Parkin, threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver, Hayden Rapp to put River up 7-6.
Early in the second quarter, the Woodland offense moved right down the field, with running back Elijah Anderson capping off the drive with a 28-yard receiving touchdown, putting up Woodland, 13-7. However, the River offense, quickly retaliated with a 66-yard touchdown pass from quarterback, Ethan Long, to tight-end, Jacob Boothe, to tie the game 13-13. Then, late in the first half, Ethan Long found a wide-open Ha’aheo Delarose, to score a 76-yard touchdown to put River up 20-13 going into the half.
