Every game from here on out is a win-or-go-home matchup and considering the level of competition in the state tournament, every game is going to be hard-fought. When we interviewed Senior Captain, Avery Siegel, about the team’s position heading into the state tournament, she told us that the team is “really prepared” because the team has won 18 games and was able to face adversity after being defeated in the district semifinals by beating Tumwater 4-1 for a spot in the state tournament.
They are the third-ranked team headed into the state tournament, something that does not seem to affect them. “Upsets happen all the time”, Avery explained. “Home-field advantage is always nice… but with that, we still [have to] come out with a win”.
She believes that the biggest thing they need to work on heading into the tournament will be “maintaining a good quality on our play” at their practices, to make sure “every single player is ready for their turn on the field.”
“Any year, a state championship is everything”, Avery said. To win state would mean a lot for the team, as it would show “young players what type of legacy [they] can leave”, considering there are five freshmen on it. Avery also mentioned that everyone on the team will need to continue to be supportive of each other, as it “mentally changes the way [they] play” (in a positive manner), which will, in turn, help them come up with wins in the state tournament.
