Macey McCoy on potentially capping off an undefeated season with a third straight title and the district championship.
-------- Conner Orr / CR Sports
Senior Captain, Macey McCoy, explained that being the #1ranked team going into the tournament means they “have a bigger target on [their] back, which means more teams are going [to want to] see [them] lose and fail”. However, Macey and the team are fine with this because it adds pressure on them to perform, which they view as a “privilege” as it allows them to “move past [the pressure]” and show the talent they have.
Regarding the team again winning the district championship, Macey said that “it was important” because, in the process, the team allowed its first set of the year which will help them “pinpoint how [they] can improve” if they get into that position again. This will be pivotal when looking at the other teams that are fighting for the state championship, as there is a lot of other strong competition the team will have to go up against if they want to win it all. However, the team’s “ability to move past adversity” and their “team chemistry”, Macey said, sets them apart from the competition, which will give them a better chance of reigning victorious this weekend.
To win state, again, would be “insane” and “a great way to go out”, Macey explained, as it would cap off an undefeated season in which they would have won their third straight title and the district championship.
