Tumwater entered the semifinal game as the 5th-ranked 2A team in the state, and the #1 team in the Evergreen league. They also dominated in their first playoff game, shutting out a highly talented Mark Morris squad 10-0. Tumwater was looking scary and had all the momentum they needed entering the semifinal against River.
After battling hard for 7 innings, River found themselves tied with Tumwater 5-5, with a trip to the district championship and the state playoffs on the line. After holding the T-Birds scoreless in the first inning of overtime, the Rapids looked to score and seal the win. With Tommy Blau on 2nd base, Nate Little stepped up to the plate. After pelting the ball to right field, Tommy rounded the bases, and after a collision with the catcher, Tommy reached home plate, scoring and winning the game for the Rapids.
