River baseball heads back to the final four of the state tournament after consecutive wins in regionals.
-------- The Columbian
The game started out a bit slow for River’s offense, but an amazing pitching performance from Zach Ziebell continued to keep them in the game. Then, in the fourth inning, the boys scored two runs and scored one more run in both the fifth and sixth inning. Going into the seventh inning, the boys were up 4-0. White River scored one run but then River sealed the game with a pop-up fly out.
This win sent the boys to the second round of regionals which would determine who qualified for the final four. The boys were set to play W.F. West, the team they beat a week earlier to win districts.
The game started out with W.F. West taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. It was another slow for River, but this time from its pitching. However, this did not hold River back from showing what they are truly made of. River totalled 13 total hits which led to 6 runs. Also, despite the 12 total hits River allowed, its pitching came in clutch when it was needed most and held W.F. West to only three runs. The game ended in a 6-3 Columbia River victory, sending them back to the final four for the first time in two years.
