Boys Soccer and Boys Baseball both capture district titles heading into the state tournament.
-------- The Columbian & Christine Smith
At that time, the boys were the 5th-ranked team in the state but were hoping to send a message to the rest of the state and the seeding committees with the dominant streak they had been on in the district tournament. Overall, in districts, the boys went 3-0 and outscored their opponents 19-1. This helped boost their seeding to be the 4th-ranked team, meaning the boys will play all home games until the final four.
Last year, boys soccer won the 2A state title and will look to defend it in the upcoming weeks. Soccer plays tomorrow night against Renton at home at 6:00 p.m. Make sure to come support the boys!
Then, for Boys Baseball, they won districts on Saturday night when they took down W.F. West 9-2. The game started slow for the boys when they gave up two runs in the first inning, however, River matched it in the bottom of the first. Then, during the third inning when River took over, they scored five runs. They used that momentum to cruise to their first district championship title in two years.
Now, going into the state tournament, boys baseball is the 2nd-ranked team and has won its past 17 out 18 games. In the state tournament, the boys will look to flip the script from two years ago and win state.
Two years ago in the state tournament, boys baseball was again the second seed and made it to the championship match. In that game, however, they ended up losing to Tumwater 1-0. Despite that, this year, with 14 seniors and great talent younger talent too, boys baseball has all the talent to claim what it left unclaimed just a couple of years ago.
