WINTER SPORTS
Highlighting each team's triumphs heading into the spring season.
By CR Sports
Girls Bowling: After starting the season rough, Girls Bowling was able to bounce back and placed fourth at districts as a team and sent three individuals to state. In state, junior Brooklyn Burnett placed 16th, senior Pax Marino placed 28th, and sophomore Sydney Rehberg placed 43rd.
Girls Gymnastics: Girls Gymnastics, despite being a very young team, had a very successful season. They took second place at districts and sent two individuals to state (freshman Sarah Hagerty and junior Macey Chenette). The girls saw significant improvements as the season progressed and are looking forward to next season as they will have everyone back as no one will have graduated.
Boys Basketball: With high expectations coming into the season and a 3rd new head coach in 3 years, the Boys Basketball team lived up to the hype. They finished the season 2nd in league and 2nd in the district. They earned the team’s first state playoff berth since 2019 and just fell short of winning in the first round at the dome. We also saw 3 Rapids achieve all-league status, with Aaron Hoey and Ari Richardson earning first-team honors and Miles Fitzwilson earning 2nd team.
Girls Basketball: The girls came into the season as defending league champions and had no issue replicating that success. Behind new coach Tee Anderson, they finished the season #1 in league and took 2nd at districts. They were led by co-players of the year Gracie Glavin and Emma Ininguez, all the way to the quarterfinals of state. A great season that brings promise for the future of River basketball.
Boys Swim: Despite it being a learning experience throughout, Boys Swim still had its successes. At the district swim meet they scored 62 points and beat out R.A. Long. Although they had no one advance to the state meet, the boys were able to develop their swimming skills and techniques which led to massive improvements throughout the year.
Girls Wrestling: Girls Wrestling had a similar season to the boys, also capping off a remarkable season. They had a great regular season as well, with Jersey O’ Neill leading the way with a 1st place finish in the Clark County Wrestling Tournament in the 120-pound weight class. The girls shined through regionals as well, and although no girls made it to state, they had a successful season with great results throughout.
Boys Wrestling: With strong finishes through the season, Boys Wrestling capped off their impressive season at state. In state, Tennyson Kurtz led the way in state by placing 3rd in the 157-pound weight class, and the team finished 18th overall. The team had a good regular season and was able to carry it through the postseason.
