When asking Senior, Jacob Boothe, about the team environment this year, he said that “it’s very competitive,” which helps everyone continue to be “hard-working.” Junior, Jersey O’Neill, who recently transferred from Woodland this year, added that the team is “welcoming” and celebratory, as everyone “celebrate[s] each other.” The goals for the team this year, according to both Boothe and O’Neill, are to win league and to get a top-10 state placement (as a team). Everyone is fighting to make it to state, which is the typical goal heading into the season, especially the ones that made it last year, such as Tennyson Kurtz, and Keller Lake, amongst others.
In the past, the team also performed great with countless individuals making it to state, and this season, the wrestling team seems to be headed in an even better direction. Boothe explained that this year the team is “senior-heavy” which makes the team a lot “closer” and “competitive,” a key reason why it has succeeded as much as it has. Moreover, O’Neill expanded, saying that the team is very supportive, which has mentally helped everyone (on the team).
