Girls Gymnastics placed 2nd in districts and qualified junior captain Macey Chenette and sophomore Sarah Hagerty for state this weekend.

Some notable performances from the meet came from junior Macey Chenette, sophomore Adelaide Gorretta, and freshmen Sarah Hagerty and Leona Lee. In total, they contributed four beam routines in which they did not commit any falls. Also, Chenette placed third overall for all-around (vault, beam, bars, and floor); Hagerty placed 8th for all-around, 6th for beam, 9th for floor, and 8th for vault; and freshman Alexa Straub placed 10th for vault and floor.
Head girls gymnastics coach Nicole Gorretta also explained that at the meet the team had “one of [its] best performances all season” on bars and found a lot of success during their floor routines as well.
Despite this, the team did not perform at the level they had hoped to. However, they were still able to keep their heads in the right direction throughout the meet which helped them achieve their highest team score of the year.
“We had a few more mishaps [than] we were hoping, but we pushed through [them] and kept an open mind throughout the entire meet,” Chenette explained. “We made sure that no matter how our routines looked, or how they scored, that they wouldn’t affect our attitude towards the rest of the meet.”
Looking toward state this weekend, the team sent two gymnasts this year: junior captain Macey Chenette for all-around and freshman Sarah Hagerty for vault and beam. After a successful regular season and thus far postseason for these gymnasts, they will compete against dozens of other schools and hundreds of other gymnasts in hopes of bringing home some individual awards and ending their seasons off in style.
