In some of their more impressive wins, they defeated Hockinson 22-6, and most recently on Wednesday, they defeated Washougal 21-3. Currently, the team is looking to build on the momentum that they have built from their current three-game win streak to make a push toward the playoffs.
Last season, girls softball went 11-6 and qualified for the District playoff tournament. The team was not able to find the amount of success they had in the regular season and was eventually eliminated after a 0-9 loss against R.A. Long. However this year, they are looking to get past Districts and make a long playoff run.
This year the team, led by star sophomore Emily Hull, currently has a 0.404 batting average which is an incredible accomplishment at any level of the game. The team also has an average slugging percentage of 0.626. Defensively, the team’s average ERA (earned run average) is 4.99, which is 1.45 less than the national average.
When comparing these numbers to the national average, the team’s batting average is 0.077 higher, and the slugging percentage is 0.156 higher. The numbers are extremely impressive at the high school level, and adding in that the team has been clicking on a three-game win streak, there is a lot of potential for this team.
The team is young, with mainly sophomores and juniors, but seems to be clicking at just the right time to build momentum for this season’s playoffs, in which they hope to find success that the slow pitch team found in the fall when they took fourth place in state.
