(CR News)- FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) is hosting a shoe drive starting on Oct. 20 till Dec. 19 in partnership with Funds2orgs. New or gently used shoes can be donated to rooms 109 and 110 during this time. Funds2orgs collects shoes, and breaks them down for materials or sells them to local businesses in developing countries. The organization promotes sustainability through the recycling of shoes. The goal of Funds2orgs is to create stable income for business owners in developing countries and their families, while helping organizations such as FCCLA, to fundraise for their goals by purchasing the shoes from them. FCCLA is a national organization for students to get involved in Family and Consumer Science education. River’s chapter—led by President Gracie Taylor, Vice President Mimi Cader, and Chief Operations Officer Graham Daline—is now accepting shoe donations which will help fund travel to FCCLA leadership conferences and STAR competitions. Gracie tells CRnews, “Competitions are important to me as club president because it allows my fellow peers and I a chance to grow personally and professionally, while developing skills and knowledge in fields we are interested in.” There are over 40 different categories for FCCLA STAR competitions. Tentatively, they plan to compete in the food innovations, nutrition and wellness, and sustainability categories. Gracie also says that “fundraising this year is especially important because we would like to send as many competitors to state as possible, which requires a fair amount of money for both transportation and competition costs.”_____________________________________
