CR News - On March 24th IB Art held their annual showcase displaying the art made by students. Each piece is carefully crafted by the students, giving them time to make their pieces with care. “Each [piece] taking one to two months depending on the piece,” Janilyn Mendoza Rodriguez, an IB Art senior, told CR News. Another IB Art senior, Gabrielle Carrasco, told CR News that the showcase was the culmination of 2 years of work from these students. Pieces showcased the unique experiences of the students. IB Art senior, Sam Levine told CR News, ”I think my whole thing was based on my belonging and my identity and where I feel the most comfortable and wanting to give my audience a view of a place where they could belong even if it's just for a moment.” Janilyn said, “Every one of my art works talks about how I see assimilation, what assimilation is and attempts of it and resistance to it”. “I was just exploring solitude, what it means to be alone.” Gabrielle said. Each art piece represented a part of their unique human experiences. Leading up to the showcase students did critiques, looking at each other's art pieces and discussing changes that could be made to each other's work. IB Art senior, Sofie Wagner, told CR News, ”I think that’s why my art was impactful, [it] was because of the people around me and how they helped me ask more questions and challenge my own thinking”. Every art piece has a unique style from colors to different types of media. For the IB art showcase there is no one method to make anything. They showcase the thoughts and ideas of every student uniquely. _____________________________________
