CR Senior Boosters Chair and Parent Amanda Stimmel tells CR News that from her experience working with the program, the event allows students to express their “creativity and individuality,” as well as reveal their hidden interests and artistic talents. Stimmel adds that “adolescence and being a teenager is about growing as an individual and becoming independent,” and that the activity enables students to help each other “mark [their] spot[s]” and “build community and excitement” for the senior year.
Senior Lucas Fish explains that his parking spot’s design was inspired by his last name, leading him to create an ‘underwater’ theme, and Nickelodeon’s ‘SpongeBob SquarePants,’ a television show Fish grew up watching. Fish also found the event especially meaningful as “[he] got to watch [his] brother do it when he was a senior.”
Denise Johnson notes that “everyone gets to [customize] their own spot and kind of portray their personality through their own design.”
Stimmel expressed her gratitude toward a “great group” of parent volunteers who came in to paint bases over last year’s spots, citing the contributions of Bob’s Paint Land alongside Parkrose Hardware in lending a helping hand by providing discounts in addition to distributing extra paint for students to use.
