BREAKING: Vancouver Public Schools confirms it will no longer pay for most IB and AP tests, with a notable exception

(CR News) - Despite Vancouver Public Schools announcing earlier this week that it will no longer pay for most IB and AP tests, the district confirmed there will be a notable exception this afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, the district announced it was

“committed” to covering exam fees for students “facing financial hardships,“ including students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The VPS statement read in part:

“If your family income is above the threshold that qualifies for reduced or free lunch, there are still opportunities to have all, or at least a portion, of your exam fees covered. Please just speak with your counselor or school administrator and they can work with you to see what funds are available at the school level to cover all, or a portion of, the fees you will need to pay for your exams.

For most of the exams, you will not need to pay the full amount until it is time for the exam. However, we are asking for deposits in advance to cover the cancellation fees we will be charged in the event a student is unable to take the exam as planned. We are asking for a minimum deposit per exam by November to cover these potential cancellation fees.” — Vancouver Public Schools via ParentSquare
