(CR News) - You probably grew up watching movies about high school and its many twists and turns. The big announcement of “who’s going to be homecoming queen?” was the center of excitement and drama. The same enthusiasm was shown by our very own royalty, Sydney Dreves. “I was excited that my student body picked me,” she told CR News shortly after being crowned homecoming queen. Student, varsity athlete, and now homecoming queen Dreves has earned her crown by representing how every student, every rapid, can rise above the standard. Whether she’s dominating the volleyball court or the dance floor, Dreves has brought in the win.
But being homecoming queen isn’t just about popularity and winning like that of the movies. It’s about showing what your school is about, and being a symbol of its values. “I feel amazing that I got to represent River,” Dreves remarks, “I just feel good about it, like the school has my back.”
“The dance[ is] fun, it shows how much River cares. [...] it’s something to look forward to,” according to Dreves. It is events like these that bring school spirit to its peak and bring the student body together. It doesn’t matter if you are on the center of the dance floor or chatting on the bleachers, there is a place for all students to let loose from their schoolwork and enjoy socializing with their peers. Picking a homecoming queen – someone who represents River’s values – is just one of the many things that make homecoming so special to our student body._____________________________________
