-------- "Bonds Between Generations" by Sydney Chrisopulos
“Earlier this year we were prompted with a hand exploration assignment,” she says, “and from there I got the idea to create a more sentimental piece.” Chrisopulos’ piece was also a part of her IB Art Portfolio and was seen in her exhibition in March.
This year was a series of firsts for Chrisopulos, as she started exploring charcoal in September. “Before this year I really only worked in pencil drawings, but this year I wanted to branch out. . . I decided to use charcoal because it has a very deep range of values,” she explains. “Bonds Between Generations” is also her first piece depicting humans. Chrisopulos has explored realism since middle school, but typically only explored animals and nature. Her prompting for this new exploration was because “[she] wanted to have a deeper connection [with] us as human beings. [She] wanted to show how these relationships affect our lives”.
