Their contributions were part of a larger charity effort, River’s annual “Mr. and Miss” pageant, that raises money for children in need.
Emceed by CR News’ Tyme Sisakvanich, CR Sports’ John Reeder, ASB’s Tyler Miles and Katelynn Kessler, student hosts made jokes and filmed a skit.
The event also featured musical, magical, or comedic performances from the dozens of seniors who were the contestants of the pageant. From nineties jams to backflips to card tricks, River students showcased their diverse range of talents.
The title of “Mr. and Miss” Columbia River went to pair Brayden Schiefer and Sophia Oberbeck, who alongside their fellow contestant couples helped raise more than $52,400.
Seniors Amaya Migaki and Kamanani Rouse, who led the coordination of this year’s pageant, remark that students spent more than seven months learning choreography and preparing for the event. Rouse says that while it was “a really big time commitment,” students had the opportunity to “make so many good memories,” an experience she says was “really fulfilling.”
