Tennis, for girls this season, overall had a lot of success, first by remaining undefeated, winning league, and winning districts.
Heading into this weekend, Emma Lungwitz, Sydney and Lauren Dreves all qualified for the state tournament. By the end of the weekend, Lungwitz took 4th place for girls in singles for the 2A tournament. Then Sydney and Lauren Dreves were a doubles pair and took 1st in the state for doubles.
The boys’ tennis season also had a few people who qualified for state from last fall.
Alex Harris, Cole Benner, and Lucas Walburn all qualified for state, with Alex and Cole being doubles partners and Lucas qualifying for singles. Cole and Alex made it to the semifinals, though unfortunately lost in the semi-finals and Lucas qualified for the quarterfinals, but unfortunately did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Track and field also had many individuals qualify for state, and many placed.
First off, for boys’ 200m and 100m sprints, Revac Banfield took 4th in both events, with a 10.96 second 100m and a 22.49 second 200m. Then for Javelin Preston Shearer took 3rd place in state with a 158ft 11in throw, and for pole vault Eli Wenger also took 3rd in state with a height of 14 feet.
Another team that had a successful season was the boys’ soccer team, who had a perfect 24-0 season. This past weekend in state, they won back-to-back games in the semifinals and then in the finals in order to win state. First, in the semifinals, they won against Sehome, 2-1. Then in the championship game, they came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat North Kitsap 4-2 and bring home their first state title since 2018. The dominant season was led by three senior captains, Cole Benner, Hunter Cunningham, and Alex Harris. Alex Harris scored a total of 76 goals this season, while Cole and Hunter were able to lead the dominant backline that only allowed 9 goals.
