However, in spite of the amazing season the girl’s season had, head coach, Filomon Afenegus announced that he was stepping down as the boy’s head coach on January 31st. “Filly” (his nickname in the program), led the boy’s soccer team to a lot of success in his tenure. Coach Afenegus coached the boys for 14 years, leading them to a state title back in 2018, and leading the team to a 3rd place finish last year.
With Filly’s departure from coaching the boys, assistant head coach, Matt Newman, steps in for the head coach spot. Newman has been with the program for many years now, and has helped the team win many state, league, and district titles. Newman used to be the main goalkeeping coach, but is now thrilled for the opportunity to take over the boy’s head coach position.
Therefore, there is a lot of optimism in the program for the upcoming season. Despite Filomon Afenegus stepping down from the head coach position for boy’s soccer, Matt Newman has high aspirations and is excited to start what is said to be a new chapter for boy’s soccer.
